Today is 21 June 2025, Sat, 03:39 am, Istanbul Turkey.
Just few hours ago Gulnihal Candan, a Turkish social media influencer (or media celebrity), passed away because of her anorexia neurosa illness. May she rest in peace.
I googled it and found out that the illness is rejecting food intake. The late Mrs. Candan might got this disease because of her being body-shamed by people. She and her sister Bahar Candan got famous for their appearance on fashion show on Turkish TV. People might have body-shamed the sisters for their appearance, even though their appearance was just fine a decade ago. I see nothing shameful on their body, but online harsh criticism against them might have led Gulnihal's eating disorder.
Sometimes I think it is best for a person to stay away from social media because folks there can be too harsh. Even now when I look at the eksisozluk, a redditlike social dictionary in Turkish language, some users are happy for the death of the star. It is such a shameful thing. How can a person enjoy someone's death, especially when that the late did nothing bad for people.
I myself used Twitter actively during Covid period and I realised that online bullying is a real thing. Some people just hate you because you exist. You don't need to do harm them or anything, they just hate you and spew hatred towards you. Try to get some success and see how haters dislike you.
Maybe the thing called "Nazar" means this, people get jealous of you and they cast evil eye on your success, if you have any.
It is already 2 years I am free of social media, especially Twitter, or X, and I am happy, thank God.
Turkish: Eğer siz de akıl sağlığınızı korumak istiyorsanız, biraz sosyal medya nefretinden uzak kalmak size huzur getirebilir.
Gülnihal Candan'a Allah'tan rahmet, ailesine ve yakınlarına baş sağlığı dilerim. Merhumeye boşuna nefret besleyenlere de Allah akıl fikir versin, kalplerine de şefkat versin.
